Workshop visits and booking

Thank you for your interest in the traditional craftsmanship of our Laguiole knives (Knifemakers & Forge in Laguiole).

Our three different tours offer you the chance all year round to learn about our traditional professions and to share the passion for Laguiole knives.

In one and the same place:

The main tour: free visits to the knifemakers’ workshop 

Throughout the year, visits from Monday to Saturday, at the following times:

  • 11 a.m.
  • 2.30 p.m.
  • 3.45 p.m.
  • 5 p.m.

Please contact us about visiting on Sundays and public holidays.

There is no need to book in advance. Please arrive ten minutes before the start of the tour. 

Average length of tour: about 40 minutes (average stay on site about 1 1/2 hours)

Tour in French.

Option for English  langue anglaise or German speakerslangue allemande  to follow the tour by borrowing a written guide.


Please take a seat in our auditorium for the first part of the tour.

A member of staff will give a presentation about Laguiole knives: their history and legends, how they were developed, why there are genuine and fake Laguiole knives, how to sharpen your knife, etc.

Then you will carry on to the knifemakers’ workshop for the second part of the tour.

One of our knifemakers will give a demonstration of how a Laguiole handle is crafted.

If there are more than six adults, the tour is split into two groups

If there are less than six adults, the first part will involve watching a video. The second part is the guided tour.

Our historical visit: our museum of the Laguiole knife

Come and admire our heritage of forged objects, in particular the finest collection of old Laguiole knives.

On certain afternoons you will have a chance to wonder at the forge for Damascus steel (layered steel).

Disabled access.

We cannot be seen from the road. You need to drive onto the industrial estate to find us (250 meters).

Our building has a GREEN “La Coutellerie de Laguiole” sign and at the front there is a statue representing a hand holding a Laguiole knife.

Around 350 groups came to visit us in 2016

We kindly request groups to make a booking (we are open seven days a week).
